In complementing the efforts of the Head of State, President Chakwera, to keep the city clean, Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) and Pharmacy Medicines and Poisons Board of Malawi mobilized their staff to participate in the Nation Clean-Up campaign last Friday on 11th December 2020.

According to the Executive Director of COSOMA, Mrs Dora Makwinja, environmental cleanliness is one of the basic things that we should all be involved in. She called on other organizations to take part, as this time around, a few organizations registered,

“It is part of our social responsibility and we are committed to be participating every time. We registered with Lilongwe city council and they partnered us with Pharmacy Medicines and Poisons Board, we have been given from Lilongwe Technical College up to Petroda Filling station. This is something that we will be doing, the city cannot do this on its own, this is going to help a lot to keep the city clean and hygienic, and it will help in preventing a lot of diseases. Next time, we are hoping that the people around will not just watch, but also join to keep their surroundings in good condition” she said.

In his remarks, Administration officer of Pharmacies Medicine Regulatory Authority said this clean-up campaign is important because it’s a sensitizing program to the people around the city as well as other organizations. “Residents were neglecting so we decided to comply with environmental health regulations of the city, we are hoping that other organizations emulate from us and join in this effort”. He said.

Speaking with one of the participants in the sweeping exercise, Mrs. Treassar Nhlane, School Book Development Project Officer of COSOMA, said it is everyone’s responsibility to keep the city clean at the same time to give the people the consciousness to keep the city clean, “I believe because of what we have done today, people will make their surrounding clean” she said.
