COSOMA Engages the Media

The Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) today held its first-ever media relations meeting to shed more light on copyright related issues.
The meeting took place at Crossroads Hotel and attracted journalists from both print and electronic media.
The engagement with the media aimed at fostering stronger collaboration and working relations to enhance public awareness and understanding of copyright issues in Malawi, cognizant that the media have a critical role of promoting intellectual property rights and supporting the growth of Malawi’s creative industries.
Speaking during the meeting, COSOMA Executive Director Ms. Dora Makwinja recognized the role
that accurate reporting and strategic partnerships have in collectively promoting and protecting the rights of creators.
Furthermore, she extended her sincere gratitude to all media representatives who took time off their busy schedule to participate in the discussions.
Among the things discussed at the meeting, COSOMA heads of departments made presentations on licensing, documentation of artists and their creative works and distribution of royalties.
In turn, media personnel who attended the meeting thanked COSOMA for the engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting and growing creative industries in Malawi.
The meeting attracted journalists from Zodiak, MBC, Times, and Nyasa Times, just to name a few.
